Thyra Grafström (1864-1925) opened her textile atelier in Stockholm on Birger Jarlsgatan in 1897. Born Inga Thyra Carola Boklund, daughter of the painter and museum curator Johan Christoffer Boklund, she trained at the technical college that became Konstfack, studied painting under Kerstin Cardon, and worked from 1882 for Handarbetets Vänner.
Within a year the atelier employed sixty people, and in 1898 it moved into the new department store of K.M. Lundberg, which in 1902 became part of Nordiska Kompaniet. She left NK in 1922 to open Thyra Grafströms Textilaffär AB on Mäster Samuelsgatan. After her death in 1925 the business was carried on first by Elsa Gullberg and then by Ellen Ståhlbrand. Work made under her direction was designed by the leading Swedish textile artists of the day, among them Märta Måås-Fjetterström and Maja Sjöström.
