Morocco’s rug-making tradition reaches back to the beginnings of civilization, and Berber rugs have long been admired for their strong tribal character, decorative quality and suppleness. Their designs, passed down from weaver to weaver, range from ordered geometry and elaborate ornament to abstract, free-form pattern, in colors from quiet neutrals to saturated hues. Since launching our Moroccan collection more than a decade ago, FJ Hakimian has supplied both vintage Berber rugs and custom rugs handmade by today’s Berber weavers, and designers are seeking them with renewed fervor: their light color, softness, sheen and loose weave suit today’s barefoot lifestyle and light-filled interiors.
