Dora Jung (1906-1980) was a Finnish textile artist who worked almost entirely in linen, and the designer who did most to bring damask weaving into modern art. She trained at the Finnish Friends of Handicraft and at the Helsinki School of Arts and Crafts, and on graduating in 1932 opened her own workshop, Dora Jung Textil.
Over a career of five decades she produced both one-off art weavings and designs for industry, for homes, churches and public buildings alike. Her hand-woven wall hangings extended the patterning possible in damask far beyond its traditional repertoire, and one of them, Doves, took the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale in 1951. She was named an Honorary Royal Designer for Industry in 1979 and a Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finland in 1980.
