Leksands Hemslöjd is the handicraft society of Leksand, in Dalarna, and one of the local societies of the Swedish hemslöjd movement. Like the other county and parish societies it kept its own weaving, taking work from weavers in the district and selling it through its own shop.
The societies mattered to Swedish carpet weaving out of proportion to their size: they gave rural weavers a steady outlet, held techniques in use that would otherwise have lapsed, and by the late 1930s were producing on a substantial scale. A rug woven for a society is marked with that society's initials, so the mark records where in Sweden it was made as much as who made it.
