René Joubert (1878-1931) was a French architect and cabinetmaker, and the founder of Décoration Intérieure Moderne. He established DIM in 1918 with the stage designer Georges Mouveau, and from 1924 worked with Philippe Petit, whose partnership with Joubert produced the firm's best known interiors.
The DIM manner is geometric and restrained, classical in its proportions but modern in its surfaces, and it was aimed at a bourgeois clientele rather than at a handful of patrons. The firm showed at the 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and its schemes extended to the carpets on the floor as much as the furniture standing on them.
